The Member of Parliament for the Bafut/Tubah Constituency, Hon. Agho Oliver has been elected 2nd Vice President of the African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) at its 11th session in Uganda.
The forum, taking place from the 6-11 April, at the Commonwealth Convention Centre in Munyono, Uganda, brings together leaders and experts to discuss sustainable development and economic growth in Africa.
Hon Agho Oliver's election marks a significant milestone for Cameroon and the Central African sub-region, which had a turn to occupy the 2nd vice presidency. The ceremony was attended by prominent leaders, including Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Hon. Agho Oliver is a dedicated public servant and one of Cameroon 's youngest members of Parliament with a background in advocacy.
He's championed African elected officials' efforts to address debt and development challenges.
His work focuses on promoting accountability, good governance, transparency and inclusive decision-making in Africa's development processes.
ARFSD-11 Objectives
The African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) is a platform that brings together leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss and promote sustainable development in Africa. The forum focuses on reviewing progress, sharing best practices, and fostering partnerships to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union's Agenda 2063. Key areas of focus include:
- Economic growth and development
- Social progress and human well-being
- Environmental sustainability and climate change
- Governance and institutional development
The ARFSD provides a space for African countries to share experiences, identify challenges, and develop solutions to achieve sustainable development. The forum also serves as a platform for African countries to prepare for global events, such as the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. By facilitating dialogue, cooperation, and knowledge-sharing, the ARFSD aims to accelerate progress toward sustainable development in Africa.
