The third class chiefdom of Baforkum in the Bambui Fondom of Tubah subdivision now has a new chief. Chief Tangie George Boma, was enthroned on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The enthronement follows extensive consultations between the Divisional Officer of Tubah, Massango Metougue Narcisse, the Paramount Fon of Bambui, Fon Angafor Mobo-oh III, and the Bafurkum Traditional Council, led by Abot Martin Mbaku. These consultations ensured the rightful successor was identified and enthroned.
Chief Tangie George Boma, born on December 28, 1966, succeeds the late Chief Akuma Che, also known as Boma Peter, who was abducted by separatist fighters and declared to have disappeared on July 11, 2021. The throne remained vacant due to discrepancies over who should succeed him. After thorough consultations, the competent authorities recognized Tangie George Boma as the rightful successor.
During the installation, the Divisional Officer Massango Metougue Narcisse advised the Baforkum youths to embrace peace and engage in meaningful activities. He urged parents to guide their children and warned that those who break the law would face consequences.
"Dear parents, please take your place as parents to look after your children and make sure they take a good path in life," he said.
Fon Angafor III, Paramount Fon of Bambui, stated that the installation aimed to ensure continuous administration in Baforkum. "Baforkum amongst other chiefdoms of the Bambui Fondom has been vacant, and administration has to continue. In that light, the Baforkum people needed a leader, which today I, together with the administration led by the D.O for Tubah and the Baforkum traditional council, have all come out to install their new chief," he said.
Abot Martin Mbaku, Chairman of the Baforkum Traditional Council, expressed relief that the new chief would now handle village responsibilities, making his role easier after managing the village for three years without a chief. "For three years without a Fon, I was able, with my council, to manage the village, but it was not that easy... I believe that with the enthronement of the chief today, being the head of the village, the task will be easier," he said.
The enthronement of the new chief of Baforkum is a testament to community leadership recognized by the government and the traditional administration. It's expected to bring stability and progress to the Baforkum people.
