Women and girls from Tubah Sub Division gathered at ICHAM HOTEL in Bambili on Saturday, March 8th, 2025, to celebrate International Women's Day under the theme "Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment." The event was a momentous occasion, bringing together women from all walks of life to promote gender equality, empowerment, and inclusivity.

The celebration coincided with the Tubah council's efforts to promote gender equality in recruitment programs, including building and construction projects where women are actively participating. This initiative is a significant step towards bridging the gender gap and providing women with equal opportunities for economic empowerment.

Mbengong Rose, the 4th Deputy mayor of Tubah council, delivered a keynote address, encouraging women to seize opportunities and be role models for others. "Women can perform exceptionally well in fields traditionally dominated by men, such as politics and administrative positions," she emphasized. "It is essential for women to take on leadership roles and contribute to decision-making processes that affect their lives and communities."

Mayor Tanjong Martin also addressed the gathering, reiterating the council's commitment to gender inclusivity. "In Tubah, women participate in projects without discrimination, and we ensure equal pay for equal work," he said. "I urge all women to take advantage of recruitment opportunities in the council. We are committed to providing a level playing field for all, regardless of gender."

Divisional Officer Narcisse Metougue expressed joy at the turnout despite the prevailing crisis. He praised the women for their courage and resilience in the face of adversity. "It is heartwarming to see women come together to celebrate their achievements and promote gender equality," he said.

However, Metougue also used the opportunity to highlight the challenges faced by women and girls in the community. "It is a sad situation that seven students have lost their lives in the past six months," he said, referring to the recent cases of violence and abuse affecting young girls in the area. "I encourage parents to be vigilant and girls to participate in council works rather than engaging in risky behaviors." Narcisse advised

In conclusion, the International Women's Day celebration in Tubah Sub Division was a resounding success, highlighting the importance of gender equality, empowerment, and inclusivity. The event demonstrated the commitment of local leaders and communities to promoting women's rights and providing opportunities for economic empowerment. As the world celebrates International Women's Day, the women of Tubah Sub Division stand as a shining example of resilience, courage, and determination.
