The Akongne Social group of Mbatu has raised funds to help the needy, underprivileged and empower the physically challenged.
A fundraiser to this effect was held in Bamenda on the 16th March 2025 as sons and daughters of Mbatu accompanied by their friends and associates of the Mbatu Fondom raised funds for the exercise.
Speaking to The Observer, the President of the Akongne Women, Neba Becky, said "Our fundamental mission is to help the poor and needy. The underprivileged in our community. The funds raised here today are not just for the needy of Mbatu extraction but those residing in Mbatu. We meet once a month to support each other." The President said.
Akongne was founded some 10 years ago and has greatly impacted the Mbatu community. The achievements of the social group were saluted across the board. With branches sprouting across the national triangle, the women encouraged their peers to belong to become one another's keeper.
They meet once a month to educate,empower and impact lives in the community in which they reside.
The President of Akongne used the fundraiser to canvass for more support ahead of the grand fundraiser in May, aimed at constructing a befitting women's centre.
The fundraising is scheduled to take place in Yaounde on the 9th May 2025 and will be under the banner of the Mbatu Women's Cultural Union.
The major partner of the Akongne Women is Premium Finance, a Category II microfinance institution with headquarters in Bamenda. According the management of Premium, the objectives of the women, aligns with its social corporate responsibility and hopes for a continuous harmonious working relationship in the future.
