The Honourable Member of the Parliament for Bafut-Tubah Constituency, the Honourable Agho Oliver Bamenju has been celebrated by his friends for his exceptional leadership since going to Parliament.
In a surprise ceremony, organised at the Tubah District Hospital, the achievements of the MP were enumerated as exceptional and an inspiration to young persons in the Municipality.
Organized by Honourable Ghejung Awunti, Commissioner of Economic Development at the North West Regional Assembly, the ceremony brought together the Fons of Kedjom Ketinguh and Bambui and the political elite of the subdivision.
Speaker after speaker took turns to appreciate the efforts of the MP in putting smiles on the faces of people and supporting village development associations.
To the Fon of Kedjom Ketinguh, HRM Fon Vuyouh Nelson, "we appreciate what he has done. We are here to call on him to do more and impact more lives across the subdivision." The Fon said
To Adangfung Eric, General Manager of UNVDA, he called for unity amongst members of the political class in Tubah. He reminded them to avoid backstabbing one and another and work in tandem to foster the peace and development of the subdivision. A message re-echoed by Ndikum Peter, Secretary General of the CPDM Mezam V Section. "Do things that will benefit the majority of the population. We are proud that the CPDM invested you and you are not failing us." Ndikum Peter said.
The friends of Hon Agho Oliver followed the footsteps of the MP to donate vouchers of the Universal Health Coverage to pregnant women and srubs to the health personnel of the hospital. The donation was preceded by an appeal from the District Medical Officer, Dr Dingana to support the hospital with a kitchen where caregivers can cook for their patients.
In a symbolic word of thanks, Honourable Agho Oliver thanked his friends for organizing such a surprise and in the hospital. "My friends really know the things I like. Taking care of the sick and the needy in the society is my passion. I have been on this course for long and my friends have decided to stand by me today. To them I say thank you." The MP said.
Hon Agho Oliver Bamenju proceeded to assure the DMO that the kitchen he has requested for will be constructed and officially handed to the hospital. He used the occasion to praise the cleanliness of the hospital and the dedication of its staff.
The member of parliament then entreated his friends to not only organize a ceremony to count his blessings but to register massively and vote during the forthcoming elections in Cameroon.
"All of this has been possible because of the platform that I have. When I got into Parliament, one of my friends advised me to carve a niche for myself. Today I am a recognized digital rights activist and this platform has done a lot of good to my constituents. So I am asking my friends today to register and vote when the time comes so we can maintain this very platform." Hon Agho Oliver said.
Recognized by the Guardian Post daily newspaper as the Most productive MP in 2024, the Divisional Officer for Tubah, Massango Metougue Narcisse, lauded the initiative of the friends of Agho Oliver. He called on them not to relent in their effort in making the Tubah Subdivision an envy of the Republic.
The Divisional Officer went further to announce that in the days ahead a serious crackdown on illegal medical facilities operating in Tubah will commence. "We lost a young girl here three weeks ago because she received the wrong dose of a vaccine from an illicit hospital. We will close down any of such medical facilities in the days ahead. We are encouraging the population to make use of the District Hospital and other medicalized health centers at their disposal." The DO said.
He also encouraged the friends of Agho Oliver to make donations to schools in the subdivision which are in dire need of assistance.
Achievements of Hon Agho Oliver
Hon. Agho Oliver Bamenju has been at the forefront of transforming lives and building common frontiers. Immediately after taking his seat in parliament, he donated 2,000 roofing sheets to families and households in Tubah whose homes were destroyed due to the ongoing conflict in the region. The affected families also received financial assistance to facilitate their reintegration into normal life.
In the same year, scholarships were awarded to orphans and vulnerable children in both Tubah and Bafut Subdivisions. Since then, the scholarship program has been repeated annually in these two subdivisions, continuing up to this year.
The following year, Hon. Agho Oliver, MP for Bafut/Tubah, donated medical supplies and equipment worth 30 million FCFA to the Bafut and Tubah hospitals. This gesture was followed by the provision of farm inputs to farmers in both communities, a practice that has become an annual tradition.
In Bafut, Hon. Agho Oliver also assisted an elderly woman who was living in precarious conditions, providing her with comfortable accommodation. Renowned for his compassion and commitment to social welfare, he has been instrumental in empowering widows, disadvantaged children, orphans, the elderly, and individuals with special needs. Moreover, he has facilitated the integration of young people into socio-economic activities both within Cameroon and abroad.
Year after year, Hon. Agho Oliver has consistently provided significant financial support to village development associations in Tubah and Bafut Subdivisions. He has also been instrumental in securing electricity, water, and road projects for his constituency.
As a dynamic and dedicated MP, Hon. Agho Oliver has toured his constituency over 26 times, averaging two visits per month. His international profile is equally impressive, with appointments to various prestigious organizations, including the Commonwealth Parliamentary Academy, the Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA), and the International Parliamentary Network on World Bank and IMF.
