Chief Ntonefor Kembu Nguimo Rene of Nsoh Bafut and Dr Mbabone Divine, Director of Road Transport at the Ministry of Transport have once again donated to the internally displaced persons living in Bamenda, the old community and Muslims during the period of Ramadan.
The donation exercise that took place at old town Bamenda, Thursday 20th March 2025, saw some 500+ persons drawn from communities such as Bafut, Awing, Kom, Nsongwa, Manyu amongst others, received bags of rice, salt and soap.
Speaking at the event, one of the donors, Chief Ntonefor used the occasion to salute the resilience of internally displaced persons, who have left the comfort of their homes and abandoned their farmlands and are now resident in Bamenda. He prescribed peace, living together and tolerance.
"I am from Bafut and my brother Dr Mbabone is from Awing. We could simply carry these things to our villages of origin but I know for sure that many people have fled their villages and relocated to Bamenda. Abandoning enormous land back at home where they could be doing farming. Surviving out of your place of comfort is not easy. That is why my brother and I decided to undertake this mission to see how we could put smiles on your faces.
"We wish to recommend that it is imperative for us all to work towards peace. Let us talk to our children who are still causing havoc in our region. It is no longer helping them neither is it helping us. Let us together build the North West we want to see." Chief Ntonefor said.
Held under the theme; "Let's be each other's keeper for a one and indivisible Cameroon with the spirit of living together for a one and indivisible Cameroon," the recipients left the premises very elated. Hamza Danpullo, speaking on half of the Muslim community was very happy as the exercise is coming during the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan.
"This last 10 days of Ramadan are the most hectic. It is characterised by intense prayers and spirituality. The gifts are coming at the appropriate time. We wish to sincerely thank our brothers for this donation." Hamza Danpullo said.
Speaking as he saluted the donor, the Divisional Officer of Bamenda II, Nicolas Nkongho Manchang, praised the efforts of the donors while calling on the population to be vigilant to stamp out insecurity permanently from our communities.
"It is very easy to start chaos but it is very difficult to end it. We have all had our fair share of this. I wish to call on you today to collaborate with the security forces for us to live like before."
The Divisional Officer also called on the donors to help the IDPs to obtain ID cards and birth certificates without this fundamental documents. A call which Chief Ntonefor said across the seven Divisions of the North West, at 50 persons will benefit from this gesture across the 7 Divisions of the North West Region.
The donation at old town Bamenda in 2025 adds to several other donations that have been done in other communities by these donors over the last 10 years. In 2024, the donation was done to the Muslim faithfuls of Santa. Other activities carried out in the past include the free donation of driving licenses to bike riders and the donation of didactic materials to school going through.
The donation comes at the time when the Muslim community is undergoing fasting during the holy month of Ramadan and the Christian faithfuls are also undergoing a 40-day fast known as lent.
