Bamenda II Mayor Donates Essential Items to Muslims Observing Ramadan


Essential items donated by the Mayor of Bamenda II 





Muslims in the old town neighbourhood have appreciated the Mayor of Bamenda II Council, Chenwi Peter for donating items to aid in their fast during the Ramadan.

Speaking at old town Bamenda, Saturday 15th March 2025, the representative of the Sarki of Old Town praised the Mayor for always coming to their aid during the period of Ramadan.

"Charity is highly acclaimed during the 30 days of fasting and we want to sincerely appreciate the Mayor for coming to visit us during this period." Al Hadji Balla Tamko said.

With more than 200 Muslim women and men present, the Mayor, Chenwi Peter, said the peace and serenity that reigns within the old town neighbourhood is worth appreciating while saluting the harmonious living together that exists between christians and muslims. He saluted the donations made by the Muslims to the Christians during the end of year feast.

"There is a gradual  return to peace within this Municipality thanks to the prayers and supplications of our Muslim brothers. We are living as one in this community which aligns with our vision of national integration. The Muslims in this community are too committed and share a lot with the non Muslims, reason why during this period of fasting, we have to show that spirit of solidarity." Mayor Chenwi said.

The Sarki palace plays host to some 200 persons everyday who come to break their fast. It was revealed that most of them are IDPs fleeing the armed conflict in some areas in the North West Region. Amongst them is Mallam Balla who escaped from Esu, fleeing repeated attacks from separatist fighters. He was overwhelmed with the donation and said "I really wish to tell the Mayor thank you. It is not easy for us IDPs during such a time." Mallam Balla said.

The Mayor donated bags of rice, flour and sugar, predominantly used during the long month fast of Ramadan.





Imam  Moustapha Mohammed told the Mayor that the people of old town will continue to pray for the growth and prosperity of the Municipality under his charge.

The month of Ramadan enters its 16th day today.
