The Aghem Community Bamenda recently held its General Assembly, bringing together community leaders, stakeholders, and the newly elected executive team. The event, which took place after the December 15, 2024 election, aimed to foster development and collaboration within the community.

The assembly was characterized by the presence of various stakeholders, including representatives from the civic sector and local council members. The event provided a platform for community members to gather, communicate their needs, and advocate for collaborative development efforts.

The newly elected executive team was presented to the residents of the Aghem community in Bamenda, fostering accountability and transparency. The assembly also extended a formal welcome to the mayor of Wum Council Dighambong Antony, who plays a crucial role in local governance and community relations.

The Mayor took out time to highlight the achievements within the Municipality of Menchum as he calls on the sons and daughters of Menchum to return home.


Being on a Nation wide tour for close to two months, Mayor Dighambong Antony Recounts the ordeals of the Aghem people out of home.

"Going out, I realised that I had to solve a lot of problems back home or back in the field. In the different towns that I met IDPs from Menchum, they had varied problems, like for example, in Douala, I met the young people there suffering and I was very fortunate that in most of the towns where I visited, the mayors of those localities came out and they took commitments how to have to shepherd my people." Mayor Dighambong Antony narrated.


Participants brainstormed various strategies and initiatives that could lead to significant development within the Aghem community. The mayor's visit coincided with the upcoming 75th anniversary of the council in the month of April, highlighting the area's rich history and leadership legacy.

The General Assembly of the Aghem Committee in Bamenda (ACOBA) was a moment for the community, to share historical and future-oriented discussions with authorities of their community. 

The Aghem Committee Bamenda pledged to continue working towards the development and growth of the Aghem community, As they prepare to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the wum council in April 2025.

As Menchum Division continues to navigate the challenges of development and social cohesion, Mayor Dinghabom Antony re-echoed the strides made in the past time in the area of development in Menchum ranging from Water to the rehabilitation of some major roads and installation of electricity in the Municipality.


In a region with a complex history of social and economic challenges, Mayor Dighabong Antony's leadership offers a beacon of hope for a brighter future. As the people of Menchum Division look to the future, they would do well to heed the Mayor's words and continue to give peace a chance.
