Councillors of Bafut Council have unanimously voted the 2024 Administrative and Management Accounts.
The Councillors approved the accounts on Thursday 27th March 2025 after a thorough review of the projects executed in 2024.
With a total budget of 607.3 million, the council was able to execute some 27 projects that have transformed lives in the Municipality.
Speaking as he presented the accounts, the Mayor of Bafut, Ngwakongoh Lawrence said the expected budget of 1.03 billion was not realized because the socio-political crisis the North West and South Regions greatly hampered by the inherent ghost towns and lockdowns, made doing business in the Municipality difficulty.
The councillors according to the Mayor have mapped out a strategy to improve on revenue collection in the Municipality in 2025.
A total of 27 projects were effectively realized in Bafut throughout the year.
The council constructed a community hall in Nsem, constructed a council poultry farm and constructed the Mile 11 Nsem roundabout.
In Education, the council constructed a nursery block at GNS Swie, renovated a block of two classrooms at GS Noho, constructed and equipped two classrooms at GS Ndung.
The council also started the first phase of the construction of the integrated health centre in Nchum and the rehabilitation of street lights from Nsoh to Manji.
These projects were widely acclaimed by the Councillors.
Some councillors wanted to know from the Mayor why with the recently acquired equipment pool, it was not generating as much money to the council.
In response, Mayor Ngwakongoh said a new dump truck has just been acquired but the other heavy duty equipment at the council are obselete and should be written off the books of the council.
"Once the machines are too old, you end up spending more in maintenance than in carrying out any works. They're obselete and we are going to write to state property to write these machines out of our books." The Mayor said.
The councillors also asked the council executive to form a commission to plant solar lighting system at Major road junctions and also form a committee to name the streets of Bafut. Councillors also empowered the Mayor to ensure that any building being erected without a permit should be stopped. Points which the Mayor said will be considered in 2025.
The council proceeded to handover maize seeds to persons living with disabilities. In his message, Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence said "in Bafut we are working for a disability accessible community. We take this into account everytime we want to execute a project and they're our partners in develop." Mayor Ngwakongoh said
Speaking as he appreciated the Councillors for their sense of maturity, the Divisional Officer of Bafut, Forkou Andelys, encouraged the councillors to do a follow-up of council projects in their respective Municipalities as well as to be prepared for the forthcoming elections in Cameroon.
