The Mayor of Bafut Council, Ngwakongoh Lawrence, has set the pace for a successful youth day celebration in the municipality after lighting the Camp firewood rituals within the municipality on February 10, 2025, shortly after listening to President Paul Biya's national address to the youth. The dynamic Mayor said President Paul Biya has the youth at heart.
"Today I listened to a man of wisdom who loves the youth of Cameroon. A man who has decided to make the Cameroonian youth happy and be great people. A man who has promised more job opportunities for the Cameroonian youth, and I am very convinced he will deliver as he has always been doing", said Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence with a broad smile.
Quizzed on that particular message he retained from President Paul Biya's message to the Youth, Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence said it was one of hope and assurance. "The year will be a great one with many job openings, and I can assure you that Bafut Council is doing all it can to create jobs for our youth, most especially in the agricultural sector.
We have distributed farm inputs and seeds to farmers within the municipality since we were elected, and we will continue to do that. The Bafut rice project has been launched and this particular sector will give jobs to hundreds of Bafut youth. We will, in the days ahead, be receiving applications for municipal police officers and it is part of the process of job creation", stated the Mayor.
Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence went ahead to say that the campfire lightning is a sign to tell the world that Bafut and another part of Cameroon are alive and ready to celebrate Youth Day. He called on those still carrying arms within the municipality to drop them off and receive the peace plan offered to them by the head of state.

"Tomorrow will be great, and we are all encouraging those still dragging their legs to join us as we celebrate the successes of our resilient youth as well chart a course for those who are still to make it. Like the Head of State said, success can be in the private and public sector. We know how dynamic the Bafut youth are and with their resilience and commitment, together, we will advance the development of this subdivision. the D.O said.
