The Turkish Ambassador To Cameroon has opened the completed first phase of the Turkiye-Cameroon Friendship Park in Douala.
This was during the visit of Turkiye Ambassador to Cameroon, Volkan Oskiper to Douala last Thursday February 6.
The significant project is poised to transform the economic capital of Cameroon. The friendship park upon completion, is said to be the largest of its kind in Douala. It is expected to occupy a three hectare land.
Ambassador Volkan Oskiper, expressed delight with the collaboration between the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TÄ°KA) and the Douala City Council. He emphasized the project's potential to address the social needs of the city's residents.
The City Mayor of Douala, Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndine, hailed the project as a gift from a valued development partner. He noted its importance in fulfilling the growing demand for social amenities and recreational spaces in Douala.
According to Ebongue Ngoh Jean-Daniel Cyrille, Director of Planning at the Douala City Council, the Turkish government is fully funding the project. Upon completion, the park will feature an amusement park, parking areas, shops, a snack bar, a swimming pool, and a conference facility for social gatherings.
Strategically located along the highway to Douala International Airport, the park is expected to serve not only the residents of Douala but also those of neighbouring towns. It is also anticipated to become a popular destination for tourists, particularly on weekends.
The Douala park is projected to boost revenue for the local council and generate employment opportunities in sectors such as catering and security. The project, it was said, represents a significant step in strengthening the bond between Turkey and Cameroon, while simultaneously providing valuable recreational and economic benefits to the people of Douala.
