The City Mayor of Bamenda, Achobong Tambeng Paul has frowned at the perpetrators of the killing of an excavator operator at the La Chance Bridge in Bamenda.
Speaking to The Observer, Wednesday 5th February 2025, the City Mayor lamented that the killing of the worker of Edge construction company may have adverse effects on the construction of the Urban perimeter of Bamenda and the inner city roads through the French Debt Relief Fund, C2D.
"This killing is a very saddened thing. Besides the work he is doing for the company and for himself, the greatest fulfillment is to the population.
This bridge collapsed about six months ago and the rapid measures we have put in place, we thought should be applauded but look at the situation now. Some young people, full of themselves, took a gun and went to the site to shoot the operator and he died in his own blood." Paul Achobong said.
The excavator operator by name Komta Elyse aged 38 and father of three whose wife just put to birth was gunned down by pro separatist fighters on Tuesday 4th February 2025. He died on the spot.
Bamenda City Mayor says this is not the attitude a Bamenda man is known for.
"This is not good. This is not our practice and this is not our way of doing things. A Bamenda man does not behave like this. A man cannot come to develop your place and you kill him like this and throw him on the road and dogs are feasting on his blood."
"Who do they think will work on these roads? Angels who will not be shot by guns? So my humble appeal is that if anybody has anything in his or her heart that will go against the development of Bamenda, that person should seek forgiveness." the City Mayor said.
Edge Company was carrying out works on the La Chance Bridge and the bridge linking Mile 3 to Mile 4 which has been a nightmare to the population of Bamenda when it rains.
Mayor Paul Achobong once more called on the population of Bamenda to embrace peace and development. This as not to scare contractors who will working in Bamenda.
