At Condolence Visit to the Joko's Family: North West Elites Condemn Separatist Violence, Call for Peace

Elites of the North West Region have carried out a visit to the pay their condolences to the Joko family following the brutal killing of the second Deputy Mayor of Bamenda II, Mrs Joko Freda Jing.

Kidnapped by Separatist fighters in the evening of Saturday 26th October from her Savannah Street residence, Ma Joko Freda was killed in the later hours of Sunday 27th October 2024.

Speaking on behalf of the Elites, Minister Felix Mbayu called on the separatist fighters to accept the olive branch extended by the Head of State to drop their arms and go to the DRR Centres.

"When the family compound of Capo Daniel was burnt, we saw him weeping and cursing. This is the same pain he caused others when he called for their houses to be burnt. Every human has good and evil. You can make a choice for good to prevail or evil.

"When you're killing under the influence of drugs, you're causing real pain and it goes down to your families.

"It is time for you to stop. If you don't change, you will be forced to change." Minister Mbayu said.

He reassured the Joko's family that the sacrifice of putting their wife at the disposal of the CPDM party and the Bamenda II Municipality will not go in vain and to the militants of the party, their coming is to reassure them that they're not alone.

To the CPDM family in Mezam IB, Ma Joko Freda was a committed militant and played a motherly role in bringing unity amongst the council administration in Bamenda II. To this, Cletus Anye Matoyah reiterated what her demise means to the party but more importantly that the party must fight to protect its legacy in the subdivision to the glory of Mrs Joko Freda.

A call reiterated by the representative of the North West Regional Coordination team of the CPDM, Fai Yengo Francis who called on sons and daughters of the North West Region to desist from any activity that associates them to separatist fighters who are wrecking havoc to the region.

"Evil, killing, insecurity is wrong. While we are marking time, the world is moving. We must be committed to peace. Peace is priceless."

He enjoined the militants not to be in despair but know that life must continue and "we are ready to go the long distance with you." Fai Yengo said.

As they prayed for the repose of the soul of the retired Treasury expert, the Governor of of the North West, Adolphe Lele Lafrique and Minister Felix Mbayu laid a candle each at the grave of the deceased Mayor calling on her to intercede for long lasting peace to return to the region.

The killing of Mrs Joko Freda adds to several other municipal authorities who have been killed in the course of the crisis. The killing of Mayor Ngong Innocent of Belo, and several Deputies including the Deputy Mayor of Balikumbat was a worry to Mayor Chenwi Peter. 

The Mayor of Bamenda called on the administrative authorities, Elites of the Region to put security at their disposal because "we are going through hell."

Late Mrs Joko Freda lives behind her husband, Joko Evaristus who described her as a friend, wife and mother.

"This is a great loss to my family because she was my special Adviser. I don't know how I will continue without her wise counsel but your presence here today is a testimony that my family and I will not be left alone. Please keep praying for the Joko and Mbanga family." Pa Joko said.

While a commitment was taken to care for the foster children left behind by Mrs Joko Freda, there was a Clarion call to save the North West Region from separatist activities.
