Prominent separatist leader and former Deputy Defense chief of the Ambazonian Defense Forces (ADF), is reeling from a devastating arson attack that reduced his family compound to ashes. The incident occurred on January 7, 2025, in Bamenda, leaving Capo Daniel and his family without a home.
In a heart-wrenching 12:25-second video on YouTube, Capo Daniel shared his pain and loss, describing how three heavily armed men stormed the compound, poured fuel on the building, and set it ablaze. Although no lives were lost, the compound, which held significant family history and heritage, is now nothing but a memory.
This incident highlights the ongoing struggle in Cameroon's Anglophone regions, where separatist groups have been fighting for independence since 2016. The conflict has resulted in significant human suffering, with over 598,000 people internally displaced, 2 million in need of aid, and 6,000 killed, according to Human Rights Watch.
Capo Daniel's criticism of the ADF and the Ambazonian Interim Government suggests that the conflict is not only about independence but also about the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. He alleged that the perpetrators of the attack were from the Bui Division, which has been at the epicenter of the conflict.
The attack on Capo Daniel's family compound serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating consequences of the conflict, which has destroyed families, communities, and infrastructure. The incident underscores the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, which has ravaged the Anglophone regions of Cameroon for far too long.
