In a significant development, Brenda Biya, daughter of Cameroon's President, has emerged victorious in a defamation lawsuit filed against her by singer Reprudentia Sonkey, also known as Dencia. The lawsuit, which sought $75 million in damages, was filed in March 2023 at the Los Angeles Superior Court.
At the heart of the lawsuit were claims made by Brenda Biya on social media, allegedly accusing Dencia of being involved in illegal activities such as drug dealing, fraud, and identity theft. Dencia argued that these statements harmed her reputation, business interests, and personal life.
However, Brenda Biya's legal team, led by Barrister Emmanuel Nsahlai, successfully argued that the lawsuit was baseless, frivolous, and a personal attack against Brenda. In a major blow to Dencia's case, the Los Angeles Superior Court granted Brenda's Motion to Quash the Service of Summons on December 5, 2024.
This ruling means that the court deemed Brenda Biya was not properly served with the lawsuit, and as a result, the case cannot proceed for now. Dencia has been given another chance to serve Brenda properly, with the next hearing scheduled for May 15, 2025.
This victory is a significant win for Brenda Biya, preventing the case from advancing and forcing Dencia to start the service process again. The ruling also underscores the strength of Brenda's legal defense, which has successfully blocked the case at every step for nearly two years.
The case has sparked widespread interest, with many following the developments closely. As the case continues to unfold, one thing is clear: Brenda Biya's legal team has proven to be a formidable force, and Dencia will need to regroup and reassess her strategy if she hopes to succeed in her defamation lawsuit.
