Councillors of the Bamenda II Council have voted a budget balanced in income and expenditure at 2.17 billion Francs CFA.
While voting the budget, the Finance Committee remarked that the budget has not been increased but the allocations per budget heads have been changed taking into consideration the specificities of the council in 2025.
Amongst the priority projects is the creation and functioning of a waste disposal plant. According to Mayor Chenwi Peter, this will be constructed to the tune of 175 million Francs and will provide jobs to the youth.
"We are talking about the employment of thousands of young Cameroonians. The project will entail the transformation of waste into biogas, tiles, pavement blocks, containers and manure. It will also have a solar plant." Mayor Chenwi Peter said.
This project will be realized thanks to the recent partnership signed with the Brampton council in Toronto Canada.
The Mayor appealed to the SDO to make land available for the realization of this project that will totally transform the Municipality.
The council is also looking for available land to construct a Youth Empowerment centre meanwhile the leasing of the council's Front-end loader and dump truck will commence in 2025. To complete their equipment pool, the council also plans to purchase a grader.
While congratulating the councillors for their maturity, the Senior Divisional officer for Mezam challenged the council board to work in tandem with the Mayor to work with the Council executive to improve on revenue collection.
A task Mayor Chenwi Peter responded has greatly improved over the last few months.
Of the 2.17 billion Francs Budgeted, 45% will go for recurrent expenditure and 55% for Investment.
