Councillors of Bamenda 1 council have voted a budget balance in income and expenditure at 1.1 billion Francs CFA.
The budget witnesses a 100 million Francs increase from the budget of 2024.
Voted by 95% of the councillors present, the budget has an expenditure of 641.5 million Francs and an investment of 458.5 million Francs.
Quizzed on how the council will generate these funds, the Mayor of Bamenda 1, Mbigha Njah Felix said " the council has derived means of raising revenue. We have purchased a Front-end loader, a grader and we will purchase a dump truck. These investments will fetch revenue for the council. Also we have constructed some market stalls along the community area, which we will use to generate revenue."
"We also have a project with the French Debt and Relief fund, C2D and they're constructing a big market around the cattle market and it will aid us in generating revenue."
Few months back, the Elite of Bamendakwe undertook a mission to all the project sites in the subdivision. At the Health centre, a request was made for a French to be constructed.
Mayor Mbigha Felix confirms that the Elite have started the project which will give a facelift to the Integrated Health Centre.
As regards the major projects for 2025, Mayor Mbigha Felix said they consists of the construction of bridges, opening of roads and the supply of portable water. Some through solar-powered boreholes.
Councillors requested from the Mayor for rehabilitation works to do be done on the stretch of road, Council Market to GBHS Junction which is a nightmare.
In response, Mayor Mbigha said the attention of the Bamenda City Council has been drawn to the poor nature of the road and they have agreed to make it passable.
With over seven deliberations voted, the Senior Divisional officer for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh, entreat them to be more performant than last year so as to realize the budget.
"The budget is just a projection. They have to work and really hard to realize it." The SDO said.
In the course of 2024, the Bamenda 1 Council benefitted from some projects. One of which came from the North West Development Authority, MIDENO, which carried some maintenance works on roads, the council support Fund for Mutual Assistance, FEICOM, that is building some market stalls in the community.
Mayor Mbigha Felix assured the councillors that in 2025, the Municipality will be an envy of many especially as roads will be opened to the farming basins of Bamendakwe.
