The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, the Rt Rev Dr Fonki Samuel Forba, has ordained Eight Reverend Pastors into the fold of the clergy of the PCC. After serving in their respective authorized parishes, Pastor Akere JeaniseTanjong, Pastor Anjah Raymond Ashu, Pastor Chu Moses Kum, Pastor Lamago Koutie Philemon, Pastor Mathias Neba Nchitu, Pastor Mbuh Confidence Wendong and Ngo Maxwell Vemyuy were successful during their ordination interview to be ordained as Reverend Pastors of the PCC.
With inspiration drawn from 1 Timothy 4:13, "Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching," This scripture served as a reminder of the importance of their role as pastors, and the responsibility that comes with serving the Lord and the people of God.
Rev Mbuh Confidence
One of the newly ordained pastors, Rev. Mbuh Confidence Wendong, who serve in the Bali Gashu parish in the Ndop presbytery, expressed her gratitude for the ordination, which she described as a "poignant empowerment" to preach hope to the people of God.
Rev. Mbuh revealed that her posting to the Ndop presbytery has not been without challenges, citing the civil unrest in Ndop, which has led to conflicts and fear among Christians. However, she expressed her commitment to using the word of God to comfort and console the minds of Christians in the area.
"I have been able to sail through with the word of God, which gives comfort and console the minds of Christians," Rev. Mbuh told the Observer.
"When they hear the sound of gunshot, they fear to come to church, but I have been able to empower them with the word of God. I believe that the word of God has the power to bring hope and comfort to the people, even in the midst of challenges and difficulties."
In a similar vein, Rev. Chu Moses Kum, parish pastor of Mfoya in the Bafut presbytery, emphasized the need for hope in the face of the ongoing crisis, which has limited the ministration of God's work. To address this, Rev. Kum has been organizing capacity workshops to give hope to internally displaced persons in the Bafut presbytery.
"The crisis has had a devastating impact on the lives of many people, leaving them without hope and without a sense of direction," Rev. Kum said. "But as pastors, we have a responsibility to bring hope and comfort to the people. We have organized capacity workshops to empower internally displaced persons with the skills and knowledge they need to rebuild their lives. We believe that with the right support and empowerment, these individuals can overcome the challenges they are facing and build a brighter future for themselves and their families."
During the ordination, the Moderator presented the new Moderator-Elect Rev. Miki Hans Abia and the new Synod Clerk Elect, Ayuk Solomon Eta to the congregation. The new Moderator-Elect and Synod Clerk Elect are set to take office on January 1, 2025.
As Rt. Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel hands over the mantle to the new leadership, he reflected on his tenure, saying, "I was called to lead, and it is now time for me to be led. I shall gladly serve."
The outgoing Moderator's commitment to serving the PCC was evident in his final act, as he passed the baton to the new leadership.
The ordination of the 8 new pastors marks a new chapter in the life of the PCC, and it is a testament to the church's commitment to raising up new leaders who will carry the torch of the gospel to future generations. As the PCC continues to navigate the challenges of the present day, it is clear that the church remains committed to its mission of spreading the gospel and serving the people of God.
In his farewell remarks, Rt. Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel encouraged the newly ordained Reverend pastors to remain faithful to their calling, and to always put the needs of the people of God first. He also urged the congregation to support the new leadership, as they take on the responsibilities of leading the church.
As the ceremony came to a close, the congregation erupted in applause, as the newly ordained pastors were presented with their certificates of ordination. It was a moment of great joy and celebration, as the PCC marked the beginning of a new chapter in its life and ministry.
