Senator Mrs Regina Mundi congratulates NWRD of Public Health
Elites from the North West region of Cameroon are actively purchasing vouchers to support local residents under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) scheme.
With the Cameroonian government aiming to reduce maternal mortality to 70 deaths per 100,000 births, these vouchers offer a subscription of 6,000 Francs for a 42-week period. This allows pregnant women to access comprehensive care, including follow-up services and delivery, regardless of complications. The government will cover the remaining 90,000 Francs, maintaining previous coverage levels.
For patients requiring dialysis, the cost has significantly decreased from 504,000 Francs to just 15,000 Francs per year.
The initiative has been warmly welcomed by North West elites, who have begun purchasing vouchers to assist the region’s most vulnerable populations. A substantial number of these vouchers were presented to Dr. Kingsley Che Soh, the North West Regional Delegate of Public Health.

Supporters of the ruling CPDM party have praised this initiative, calling it one of President Paul Biya's greatest gifts to the Cameroonian people. Senator Regina Mundi emphasized the importance of health care, stating, "He who takes care of your health is a friend. So President Paul Biya is a friend."
According to World Bank statistics, approximately 13 percent of children in Cameroon die before the age of five, a situation exacerbated by limited access to affordable health care. With the introduction of Universal Health Coverage and the distribution of vouchers, there is renewed hope in Bamenda and the North West region for improved health outcomes, particularly for internally displaced persons who continue to struggle for basic livelihoods.
