The Mayor of Tubah, Tanjong Martin has called on councillors, Neighbourhood committees and the Elite of Tubah to work together for the realization of projects in their respective villages.
The call was made in Bambili, Wednesday 20th November 2024 as the stakeholders converge to discuss on the priority projects for 2025, through the Budget Orientation Debate.
Mayor Tanjong remarked that the neighbourhood committees who are charged with submitting projects to the council, must do a broad based consultation with other stakeholders, attach an attendance sheet after their deliberations before submitting their proposals to the council. This he says will wipe out the notion of one man sitting to select projects for a village without die consultation.
"Go back, convene your community, get the projects, let them sign so that we know they're the ones taking that decision." Mayor Tanjong told The Observer.
The Mayor went further to state that the idea of setting up neighbourhood committees is not the first time. "It existed before under the PNDP and I must say this is very laudable. Let the villages be at the centre of their development. They will be benefitting from what they want and projects will not suffer disruptions because they're need based. In some sensitive areas, we are now sure that the community will protect the projects and the connectors." Mayor Tanjong said.
As the communities were trying to state their needs, the aspect of available land came up. The Mayor pleaded with the Fons of Tubah to allocate land to the council for community development. He said they're projects that have had enormous difficulties in execution because of the lack of available land for execution.
A plea the Fons said will be looked into going forward.
The Divisional Officer for Tubah, Metouge Narcisse remarked that the village committees must work in tandem with all vital forces of development within the villages for an all inclusive development.
The Budget Orientation Debate of Tubah Council was held in partnership with IVFCAM and National Endowment for Democracy.
