The Board of the Bamenda City council has budgeted the sum of 5 billion Francs, balanced in income and expenditure for the 2025 financial year.
The budget witnesses an increase of 147 million Francs CFA, representing 3.04% in relative terms.
Of the 5 billion budget, 2.4 billion was allocated for recurrent expenditure and 2.566 billion for investment.
After a thorough examination of the budget, proposals were made by the Finance committee to make the budget better. Key aspects which the City Mayor, Achobong Tambeng Paul says will be effected.
The City Mayor also highlighted the fact that this is the first year that the council will begin executing the programmed budget. Under this, they're four key areas under consideration.
Basic social services, promotion of Economic development, promotion of culture, sports and support to the youth, Governance and local Administration.
These four key items according to the Finance committee were found in the budget.
As concerns priority projects for 2025, the City Mayor said the C2D (French Debt relief fund) projects will go underway covering some major road and infrastructures in Bamenda. This will also see the construction of modern markets in Bamenda I and III amounting to more than 2 billion for the two projects. Also, the finalisation of paperwork for the imminent construction of the Bamenda urban bypass will be concluded in less than a week according to Paul Achobong.
Other priority projects include the opening of roads, construction of bridges, extension of electricity, construction of boreholes were tipped as being fundamental.
To help realize his vision for road construction, the city Mayor displayed the vehicles he had purchased since taking office in 2020.
A front end loader, a grader, two 30-seater coasters, two pick-ups and a land cruiser. This he says he will use them to transform the semi urban roads of Bamenda.
He however challenged the city councillors to do everything within their powers to sensitize their people to welcome the development projects earmarked by the city council.
On the issue of waste disposal, a deliberation was passed, authorizing the city Mayor to engage with a waste transformation company known as International Solutions Company (ISE).
The company will transform house hold waste into maure, plastic bottles into containers, gallons and other plastic Materials
According to the Director of Urban Development, this is a win-win for the Bamenda City council that initiated the process of waste sorting some few months ago.
"The council will not be spending a dime on this. The council will instead be receiving some finances from the company. This will definitely bury the aspect of waste disposal on the streets of Bamenda." DUD said.
The councillors also proposed that something be done on the dusty nature of the roads. A plea, Mayor Achobong promised to look into.
With renewed perspectives from the City Mayor, Bamenda promises to be a vast construction site in 2025.
