Under the community resilience project (PROLOG), the Municipality of Bafut has trained and equipped neighbourhood committees on how to select and prioritize projects.
This will increase citizens' participation in the projects that are being implemented in their community and it will be need based.
After the selection of the projects, the neighbourhood committees were taught by the Council Development of Officer of Bafut on how to prioritize the projects before submitting it at the level of the council.
While speaking to the Press, the Mayor of Bafut, Ngwakongoh Lawrence, called on the Presidents of these committees to be inclusive. Work with councillors of the villages concerned as well as the development associations of these villages.
"The development of in these various areas needs to be rapid this time around and they need to come up with their priority projects as per their needs, because at the level of the council, we do not really know all their priority projects. But with these neighbourhood committees, they're the ones to come up with these projects." Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence said.
PROLOG recommends that the neighbourhood committees become an integral part in the implementation of the projects.
After discussing for two days, from Friday 15 to Saturday 16th November 2024, the committee heads of the 54 gazetted villages that make up Bafut prioritized water, roads and schools are the top three needs. They were called upon to move back to their respective villages and discuss with their people before the Budget Orientation Debate that is soon coming up soon.
Participants were expressly happy with the knowledge placed at their disposal and promised to work tirelessly for the success of projects in the Municipality.
Launched in January 2024 with a CFA 190 billion endowment, PROLOG targets six regions, the Far North, North, Adamawa, East, North-west, and South-west, to strengthen local authority performance, enhance citizen participation, and deliver sustainable infrastructure. The program emphasizes inclusivity, gender equity, and climate adaptation, ensuring long-term community resilience and development.
