Ahead of the international day of the girl child on the 11th of October 2024, Sisterspeak 237 organised a talk to galvanize the students at Christian Comprehensive Secondary School (CCSS) Nkolmbong in Yaounde under the theme; "Girls Vision For The Future". Sisterspeak237 aimed to advocate for girls' rights and empowerment through various initiatives, including media outreach and storytelling.
The founder of SisterSpeak237, Comfort Mussa, emphasized the organization's commitment to inspiring girls to recognize the power of their voices and their unique visions for the future. Plans are underway to engage students in workshops and mentorship programs, fostering a supportive community that encourages skill-building and leadership development.

Keyaka Edward, the principal of CCSS Nkolmbong, addressed the gathering with a powerful message about the vital role of girls in society. "The future begins now," he stated, urging students to dream big and remain disciplined in their pursuits. He highlighted that both girls and boys possess equal capabilities to succeed and that empowering girls is essential, as their contributions are crucial to societal progress. "If girls unite and support each other, they can change the world," he affirmed.
Students like Konyu Precious an Upper sixth science student, reflected on the impactful discussions held during the event. "Today, I learned how to be more serious about my visions and to document them," she shared. This realization resonated with many attendees, who recognized that girls with dreams can grow into great women with significant aspirations. The focus on discipline and alignment with personal goals was a recurring theme throughout the day.
Saidi Ezra Vasilisa, a form 5 student of CCSS Nkolmbong, spoke about the importance of having dreams. "When you have a dream, it helps you determine your path and shape your future," she noted. She added that many women today have achieved great things by focusing on their goals and overcoming limitations. This message of resilience and determination inspired her peers to believe in their potential.
The commemoration saw the Sisterspeak237 organization donating to the girls of the CCSS Nkolmbong, sanitary pads, thereby encouraging the students to better hygiene and sanitation. Also it was an interactive session where the young girls expressed their worries to the organization which they were being given clarifications by experts, satisfying the students curiosity on girls issues and crisis girls face on a daily basis.
As the day concluded, the atmosphere was filled with hope and motivation. The event underscored that girls are not just dreamers but capable doers, equipped to create a brighter future. Sisterspeak237 is committed to continuing its outreach efforts, ensuring that the voices of girls are celebrated and heard. In the words of the principal, "Celebrate yourselves, girls, so that you will also be celebrated." The International Day of the Girl Child serves as a powerful reminder of the potential within each girl and the collective strength they hold for the future.
