On August 28, 2024, the Bafut palace buzzed with excitement as the Honorable Member of Parliament for Bafut-Tubah constituency presented a prestigious medal to the Paramount Fon of Bafut, recognizing him as the number one sportsman of the Bafut fondom.
This recognition comes at a time when the community is finding innovative ways to foster unity and resilience amid ongoing social unrest.
As the summer holidays came to a close, the Agho Oliver holiday tournament emerged as a beacon of hope for the youths of Bafut. This tournament did not only keep the young people engaged during a delicate period but also served as a platform for promoting peace and community development. Honorable Agho Oliver emphasized the significance of the tournament, using it as an opportunity to advocate for environmental awareness through the planting of trees—a lasting tribute to the first edition of this remarkable event.
Fon Abumbi II, Paramount Fon of Bafut, addressing committee members of the Hon Agho Oliver's football tournament
Fon Abumbi II expressed his support for the initiative, highlighting the vital role of football as a uniting factor.
"With the return of peace, our children can return to school," he stated, underscoring the importance of collective efforts in nurturing future leaders. His call for peace resonates deeply in a region where educational institutions have faced significant challenges since the onset of the crisis in 2016.
The tournament, organized by a dedicated committee led by the First Deputy Mayor of Bafut, Lum Epse Chesi Miriam, was hailed as a resounding success. Mayor Miriam acknowledged the critical role of the parliamentarian in involving the youth in meaningful activities and announced plans to distribute educational materials to support children as they prepare to return to school.
The active engagement of the youth in community initiatives is crucial, particularly in the context of education in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon. As Bafut stands strong in its commitment to peace and development, the Agho Oliver tournament serves as a reminder that through unity and resilience, a brighter future is within reach.
