SAGO 2024: CAMTEL recounts success stories, highlights efforts to improve citizens’ well-being

Cameroon's National Telecommunications operator, CAMTEL is at the heart of the 2024 edition of the Trade Fair for Government Action known by its French acronym SAGO.
The annual event started July 20 and will draw its curtains on July 27, 2024, at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.

One of the crowd-pulling side events of SAGO was the press conference organized by Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL this Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

The fair organized under the theme “Governance and the improvement of the living conditions of citizens” was the focus of the presser led by CAMTEL’s General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi.
The press conference was an opportunity for the GM to recount the institution's successes and assure Cameroonians of their unwavering support to improve the living conditions of citizens.

CAMTEL since September 2023 is celebrating its 25 years of existence since, and during the year-long festivity, the Telecommunications body has organized theme days to explain to the population what CAMTEL should do, what CAMTEL has done so far, and what CAMTEL continues to do to improve its services. 

CAMTEL's STAND

Thus far, they have had practically 8 thematic days each month with different sectors, and the Presser, the GM hoped was an avenue for them to receive contributions and other needs to serve better and improve the living conditions of Cameroonian citizens.

                   Successes 

CAMTEL boosts an infrastructural heritage of four submarine cables, 12,800km of optical fiber, a Tier 3 certified data center, and a robust network of fiber optic; 2G, 3G, AND 4G mobile networks. This infrastructure it should be said has facilitated digitalized services, including online tax declarations and customs operations, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reform.


The institution’s efforts in security are prominent, such as the deployment of public video surveillance in major cities, comprising 3,000 cameras. Also, it has contributed to creating digital development centers in state universities, enabling e-education.

Efforts to improve citizens’ well-being

During the conference, the CAMTEL administrators highlighted the government services they have been able to modernize through their infrastructure. From simplified customs operations to obtaining passports in 48 hours, not to mention teleworking and e-declaration, these innovations, it should be said demonstrate CAMTEL’s commitment to improving the daily lives of Cameroonians.

“CAMTEL has been able to create an eco-system to accompany start-ups to serve as incubators for youths” Judith Yah explained, highlighting the most recent being the Blue Tech Challenge launched months ago and results expected to be announced in August.

The Telecommunications body offers very affordable prices for its products and internet bundles to help citizens browse with ease. With innovation is the availability of a CAMTEL community which permits its members to enjoy unlimited calls at just 2,000frs a month.

According to the chief of the Marketing Department, Christian Etoundi Ngaba digital sovereignty made possible by CAMTEL is “thanks to CAMTEL’s data center and our government data is secure on our soil, guaranteeing our digital independence”.

Ngaba added that, as a partner of choice for connectivity in Central and West Africa, “CAMTEL’s extensive network and access to international submarine cables position it as a key player in the region's digital transformation”.

The General Manager pointed out that the company has played a crucial role in Cameroon’s telecommunications development over the past 25 years, and looking ahead, it plans to digitalize Decentralized Territorial Authorities, promote e-Agriculture, and reposition community telecenters.

         About SAGO 2024

The 13th edition of the Trade Fair for Government Action, SAGO was launched on July 22, 2024, by the Minister of Communication and Government spokesperson, Rene Emmanuel Sadi on behalf of the Prime Minister, Head of Government.

The 8-day event has brought together about 245 exhibitors, including Government structures, parastatals, and businesses showcasing their products, services, and job opportunities to visitors, meanwhile, over 200,000 visitors are expected at this year's fair.
