The United Nations Collaborative Inter-governmental Scientific Research Institute (UN CISRI) has in a prestigious ceremony, awarded Mayor Ngwakongho Lawrence of Bafut for transforming the Municipality.
Since taking over the helm of the Municipality, Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence and the Bafut council have emerged as one of the leading councils in the execution of the public investment budget. The Mayor has also marketed the produce from the Municipality across the boundaries of Cameroon, with a vision of packaging the Bafut sand as well as the ginger and other home grown produce.
With several communities thanking the Mayor for his unreserved development skills and support to humanity through the Good Shepherd orphanage home, the planting of trees to protect water catchments and the donation of a football competition for more than 10 years running, the organisation, Grass To Grace lifted the Mayor to the rank of a courageous Mayor who despite the crisis has not stopped giving hope.
Held at the magnificent Prayer City Conference Hall in Up Station, Bamenda I, the award ceremony brought together a gathering of community leaders, philanthropists, and media representatives, all united in their admiration for the mayor's exceptional stewardship. The event, themed "Paying Tribute, Celebrating Agents of Change," was a profound celebration of Mayor Ngwakongho Lawrence's steadfast dedication to his constituents.
During his speech, the mayor expressed his gratitude stating, "This award is an additional feather to the population of Bafut and not just for me alone. It is also a form of encouragement that all the charity works I was doing on a personal note even before becoming a mayor, I need to continue. I want to say that it is a clear fact that whatever you are doing, you never can tell who is watching, even if it is just sweeping the street. I want to encourage others to follow suit and wake up from their slumber that the percentage of the needy persons within the region and Bafut, in particular, are many, so we need more hands to come on board to see that we alleviate poverty within the municipality."
The mayor's relentless efforts to promote development in the Bafut municipality have not just been noticed by G2G as he was earlier conferred the title of "Development Warrior" by the Paramount ruler of Bafut, Fon Abumbi III in April 2024.
Among 14 esteemed recipients, Mayor Ngwakongho Lawrence's accomplishments have placed him as the recipient of the prestigious G2G Courageous Men Award 2024, a testament to his transformative impact on the community. This recognition not only honors the mayor's exceptional leadership but also serves as an inspiration for others to follow in his footsteps, striving to create positive change within their communities.
