Elements of Cameroon's Elite force, the Rapid Intervention Battalion have taken Amba fighters by surprise, embarrassing them in the process and rescuing Senator Mrs Regina Mundi.
According to the Director of Communication at the Ministry of Defense, Navy Captain, Serge Cyrille Atongfack , the Senator was rescued with a lot of casualties recorded in the ranks of the separatist fighters.
In an operation that got into the early hours of Tuesday May 31st, 2022, the Military reports that 12 separatist fighters were killed, 3 captured, several assorted rifles and ammunition of various calibers seized.
14 improvised Explosive Devices seized and diffused. Two vehicles recuperated alongside the vehicle of the Senator.
This has been seen as an outright humiliation to the Amba fighters who made Batibo their stronghold and a dead end to the military.
Calls from several groups of people including the Arch Bishop of Bamenda and the Moderator of the PCC for the release of the Senator whose actions have been saluted across the board, fell on deaf ears.
Instead a video circulating online called on the government of Cameroon to trade Mrs Mundi to the jailed SCNC leader, Nfor Ngala Nfor. A request the government responded with an attack to free the Senator.
In a move seen to be desperate, the Ambazonia Defense forces issued a video claiming to have liberated the Senator and inflicted untold damages to the Defense forces of the Republic of Cameroon. The video appeared edited and the personality shaking in speech with red eyes.
2pm on Tuesday May 31st, Senator Mrs Regina Mundi is spotted at the Bamenda Airport with North West Governor on hand to receive her alongside the Commanders of the 5th Military and 5th Gendamerie Region.
Joined by her family members and party comrades, they expressed plenty of joy for seeing their mother after 30 days in captivity.
Navy Captain Atongfack like the Administrative Authorities of the North West Region have thanked the population of Batibo for collaborating with the defense and security forces to expose the atrocities of fighters.
Atrocities that have made Batibo come under Siege for 5 years now with road blocks every now and then.
Kidnapped on the 30th April 2022, Senator Mrs Regina Mundi was last seen in a public event at the donation of delivery kits to women in Tubah. A fight against Maternal and neo-natal deaths since assuming her seat at the Upper House of Parliament.
Cherished by many as a lovely mother who cannot hurt a fly, the population of Bamenda was taken aback as why she can be kept for so long. Messages on the messaging App WhatsApp have congratulated the Defense and Security forces for taking the bull by the horn and ensuring that she left unharmed.
