Archbishop Nkea, Youth call for the release of Regina Mundi

Archbishop Andrew Bishop

The Archbishop of the Bamenda Archdiocese Andrew Nkea in a rare outing on Tuesday May 10th has called on the unconditional release of Senator Mrs Regina Mundi.

The prelate has called on the abductors of the Senator to remember her other deeds as a devoted Christian and mother and ensure that she is released unhurt.

"I appeal to anyone who has any influence over those holding Mrs Mundi to return her to her family unhurt" a portion of the release read.

Senator Mrs Regina Mundi was kidnapped on Saturday 30th April 2022 by gunmen as she was on her way to attend a wedding. Her only crime as stated by the separatist fighters is that she is a Senator of Cameroon's upper house of Parliament.

His Grace Archbishop Nkea calls on her abductors to know that before being a Senator, Mrs Regina Mundi was a mother.

"Mrs Regina Mundi is a mother and a grand mother of children and grand children who love her independent of her being a Senator. These grand children and children are waiting for their mother and grand mom to come back home to enjoy her love again."

He also called on Christians and people of goodwill to pray for the release of Mrs Mundi and others in captivity.

"I call on the christians and people of goodwill in Bamenda and beyond to pray unceasingly for Mrs Mundi and for any other people who are in captivity and in prison that they may return to their families soon"

The outing of the Archbishop of Bamenda comes two days after tracks were circulated in some neighbourhoods in Bamenda, coming from the youth and calling on the abductors to release the Senator.

A portion of the track threaten the kidnappers that any harm on the Senator will receive a counter from the population.

Mrs Regina Mundi recently donated delivery kits to some 200 pregnant women in Tubah subdivision in her drive to fight against Maternal and infant mortality.

On the occasion, the Senator who is largely regarded as a mother called on the health practitioners in Tubah that any pregnancy that ends in Caesarean section, the bill will be born by the Senator.

Her drive towards empowering women and causing grassroot politicians to put their communities first has been saluted on several occasions.

Speaking to some locals on the ground, they describe the kidnap of Mrs Mundi as unfortunate. Citing her good and numerous charitable works to the people of Bamenda.

Before her kidnapped on April 30th, she was one of very few Senators and MPs still resident in Bamenda.
