The first vice President of United Councils and Cities of Cameroon UCCC, who doubles as Mayor of Wum Council, Dighambong Anthony Mvo has promised the best for his Municipality and to serve as a bridge for development in his municipality. It was his first official home coming after being elected as Vice President of UCCC on November 4th 2020.
Speaking in front of a mammoth crowd that showed up during the home coming ceremony at the Wum ceremonial ground Saturday March 5, 2022, Mayor Dighambong Anthony promised to use his additional position to continue his developmental works in his municipality, with Electricity and road works as top priorities.
"Because of the challenges and what I have seen here today, I am promising and taking a firm commitment from today henceforth, I am going to be a bridge for the Menchum people to cross on... I believe being at the corridor of power, I believe projects for Menchum, Wum in particular will troop in their numbers. Looking at the project log book, you will find out what has come to the division, I think it's thanks to this position I was elected into"
"I have been given authority by the people and I think it's time to sit up. About the roads, it's time to meet authorities in Yaoundé to lobby for the start of the Menchum hydro electricity power project, time for the Bamenda Wum Road to be part of the ring road project, it is time for development to start flowing in Menchum Division. The massive turn out has given me alot of courage not to quit but fight and fight for the people", Mayor Dighambong Anthony emphasized
The 50-year-old physics teacher, member of YCPDM for the North West region former President of the Divisional Scientific and Technical community of the UCCC in Menchum from 2015 to 2020 and development oriented Mayor has proven to be a man of the people with his cordial and collaborative relationship established through construction of culverts, modern shops in the market, Wum Town Hall, rehabilitation of seasonal roads, provision of public lights in strategic points in Wum, providing financial assistance for the construction of some churches which pulled the hundreds of Wum indigene to welcome him.
Representing the National President for UCCC Augustin Tamba, Mayor Awoh Ndang Denis, President of North West UCCC appreciated the massive turn of the population and challenged them to support the Mayor for development and to eventually restore peace and unity in Wum.
"I want to thank the population of Menchum who did well for their massive turn out. The Mayors in Cameroon never made a mistake putting Mayor Dighambong as the First Vice President of the UCCC. I wish and pray they continue to collaborate with him and that Peace should return to our region. It's a rare occasion to see the population turn out like this. I pray that other municipalities will emulate the example of Wum today and let the population enjoy Unity like it had been before." Mayor Awoh Ndang Denis representative of National President UCCC, President of North West UCCC.
While addressing the population, Akwa Patrick representing the Elite of Wum, urged all sons and daughters of Wum to effectively support the Mayor in his endeavours, be one another's keeper and collaborate to bring long lasting peace in Wum subdivision and Menchum division as a whole.
The population of Wum municipality went ahead to salute the bravery of the Mayor from a humble beginning moving to higher heights
"Today is a day of celebration, we are celebrating our son for the parcel he has brought home being vice President of UCCC. We say more grease to his elbow and wish him well for the job he has at hand. He has always been a humble son and we know good things shall come for him to impact our community. We promise to support him in all what he does to bring change in our community". Abeng Celine an Indegene of Wum community spoke in joy
The United Councils and Cities of Cameroon was created in 2003 as an Association of all councils of Cameroon that seeks to contribute to the process of decentralization. It is being led by the Mayor of Yaounde VII, Augustin Tamba, first Vice President Mayor Anthony Dighambong of Wum Council and Kumba City Mayor-elect, Greg Mewanu, Treasurer General.
