The Municipality of Bamenda II will construct 24 low cost housing in 2022.
The project was jointly commissioned Thursday 16th December 2021 in Yaounde through an MoU signed by the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousman Mey and the Mayor of Bamenda II Council, Chenwi Peter.
The Mayor says this is an opportunity to settle internally displaced persons in his municipality who have left their houses in search of settlement elsewhere.
As one of the municipalities hardly hit, the villages of Nsongwa, Mbatu, Chomba and parts of rural Mankon saw a rise in insurgency resulting to a mass exodus of families who are either staying with their hosts or are trying to accommodate themselves in an already saturated Bamenda.
The project expected to last 18 months will be Financed to the tune of 509.560 million Francs CFA.
Minister Alamine Ousman Mey says the project will kick off in March 2022 and cautioned the Mayors to handle the project judiciously to help the population.
Six councils in the Republic of Cameroon are benefitting from the project amounting to 2.315 billion with the Lion's share allocated to the Bamenda II Municipality.
Mayor Chenwi Peter since taking over the helm of the council has promised to first reconstruct the lives of those living in the municipality through transformational projects that will bury the insurgency plaguing the municipality.
