Nji Nelson Chefor, President of the Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA) of the University of Bamenda, has handed materials to departments under the Faculty. The didatic materials aimed to ease learning process of students in the Faculty was received with plenty of joy.
The donation comprising of 7 sets of jerseys were handed to each department, 20 Chairs handed to the faculty and two flat screen Television sets handed to the department of Performing and Visual Arts.
These gifts are coming at a time when some lecturers in the University of Bamenda, particularly the Faculty of Arts in certain times have been forced to carry along chairs from their offices to lecture halls. Students in the Department of Performing and Visual Arts display their works in analogue television sets while departments are not properly represented in sporting events organised by the institution.
Reacting to the gesture from FASA, Prof. Canute A. Ngwa, Dean of the Faculty of Arts appreciated the gesture and promised to add more as well as protect the items donated considering it is the first ever since the existence of the student Union in the faculty.
"We have had several executives that have come and gone in this faculty but we have hardly had this kind of a gesture. In spite of the very difficult moments, this executive has been exemplary in their orientation, they have been titled towards academics and making sure their followers will be better trained."
"We will build up on this and have more for the faculty use and even if they were to be taken out they will be brought when we have faculty events so that people do not drag seats from their offices. I want to thank you people for touching these aspects which are very sacrosanct to the life of the faculty. We will protect all what you have brought and add more", Prof Canute A. Ngwa added.
Reiterating the desire to satisfy students, President Nji Nelson Chefor said his wish as president is to make sure FASA students are satisfied.
"My wish from day one is to make sure the students of the Faculty of Arts are well catered for, respecting the moto of this executive STUDENTS FIRST. Before the exco went in for this position, we knew that we were going to touch directly the lives of the students and administration of the faculty"
"We expect them to continue supporting us since they have been of great help to us since we took over office, we expect them to continue the support." President Nji Nelson added.
The Faculty of Arts in the University of Bamenda is made up of eight departments (History and Archeology, Linguistics and African Languages, Geography and Planning, English, Performing and Visual Arts, Philosophy, Communication and Development studies) which are bent on educating students to have the best of knowledge.
