The elite of Mankon have taken a strong commitment to see the successful construction of the stretch of road from Mile 8 Mankon to the palace.
The contract to see the road constructed was awarded to Edge construction company
About three weeks ago, drivers of the company were kidnapped and their fingers maimed.
Three days ago, heavy duty vehicles were seized from the company and the cashier kidnapped. This has greatly slowed the execution of the works
First earmarked in 1987, the road to the first class Fondom of Mankon is yet to be constructed. Edge construction company is gradually losing interest in the project
To ensure that the project sees the light of day, the community through its Elite have decided to own the project
Cletus Anye Matorya, Elite of Mankon and General Manager of the North West Development Authority, frowned at the incessant attacks on the project
He noted that the project is for Mankon people and all should come on board to protect it
"We have to improve on the accessibility to the palace come rain, come shine. Those who think that the road is not for the Mankon man should have a rethink"
The elite called on the quarter heads to talk to the children of Mankon who have as interest to disrupt the works to desist and accompany the project
"Most of the road construction in the urban perimetre of Bamenda is in Mankon. It our project and we must stand by it" Matorya told the people
To Prof Fru Angwafo III, President of the Regional Assembly and Elite of Mankon, "Parents should do everything within their power to instill discipline in their children"
The construction of the road when realised will greatly improve the development of rural part of Mankon
Coincidentally the development of the NORTH West region has been entrusted to the sons of Mankon. While Cletus Anye Matorya heads MIDENO, his tribesmen, Prof Fru Angwafo III heads the regional assembly
Councilors of the Bamenda City board had discussed on the project and adopted that if Mankon cannot protect the project, it should be given to another subdivision which has relative peace
In a call to order, His Royal Majesty Fon S.A.N Angwafo III reminded the population that the construction of this road is a dream come through and they must ensure it delivered with the shortest time possible
The quarter heads just like members of the traditional council have taken a strong resolve to protect the equipment of the company and ensure that the works go on hitchfree
While appreciating the people for coming, the Mayor of Bamenda II, Chenwi Peter promised to roof one of the buildings currently lacking a roof at the entrance to the palace
