The Governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lele LAfrique has challenged farmers to increase their yields as he launched the 2021 farming season in Santa
The Governor pointed out that the launching this year has been taken to the farms as a call to improve on the Agricultural potential of the region that has been hit by a four year old crisis
The farmers speaking through their representative, Ngong Elizabeth Maika, she pointed out that the vibrant youth involved in Agriculture have left the rural areas while bad roads have made it difficult for them to access theirs farms
This is further compounded by the fact that women have been raped and some kidnapped while going to the farm.
Her request to the powers that be for normalcy to return to the region received an appropriate response from North West Governor who requested that those carrying arms should drop them for long lasting peace
"I want to use this opportunity to call on our children to lay down their arms and join their friends at the DDR centres. This as a way to bring back long-lasting peace in the region"
The launch of the farming season precedes the distribution of 18.5 tons of maize seeds and 27.2 tons of agrochemicals to some 646 farmers of the region by the North West Development Authority, MIDENO
Cletus Anye Matorya, General Manager of MIDENO encouraged the farmers not to relent because the farm will never fail
As the farmers prepare their farms, some. 13.5 tons of solanum potatoes, 4 tons of maize, 190 bags of NPK fertilizers, 280 sachets of fungicides, 15 litres of insecticides and 100,000 cassava cuttings
North West Regional Delegate of Agriculture, Fuchi Thomas Song took out time to lecture the farmers on how to use inputs to attain the desired yields
Some farming groups were also handed water pumps for irregation
