Bamenda: Population foils Kidnap

Population beats suspected fighter

Residents of Finance Junction in Bamenda have lynched a man who attempted to kidnap a 10 year old child

In trying to run away with the child on foot, neighbours suspected that it is a possible kidnap and descended on the young man who upon questioning, had no blood relations with the child

"Thief pidkin, thief pidkin" the crowd that gathered as he lynched shouted in pidgin English

Stones and sticks were used to beat the man in attempt to take life away from him

Forces of law and order who stormed the scene prevented jungle justice from occuring as they ferried away the young man

Kidnaps for ransom has become very common in the North West Region of Cameroon since the Anglophone crisis became an armed conflict in 2017

Separatist fighters have used this as a major way to extort money from business persons and those prominent in society to the tune of millions

The population of Nkwen in Bamenda III subdivision have on several occasions stand as one to prevent kidnapping from occuring in their neighbourhoods

It is believed the kidnapper would have quickly made away with the child if bikes were still in circulation in Bamenda

Bikes were restricted from circulating on the urban perimeter of Bamenda on September 7, due to recurrent atrocities committed by men on motorbikes
