The poor drainage system and torrential rains that engulfed the City of Douala in the Afternoon of Thursday August 20th to the later part of Friday August 21st has left many homeless and goods destroyed
The more than 18 hour rain saw water penetrate into private homes and businesses in Bonapriso, Akwa North, Makepe Mesoke and Mambanda in Douala IV Municipality
Access to businesses and traffic circulation were halted for a greater part of Friday
Goods worth millions have been lost to the torrential rains while no human casualty has been reported
"I could not make it out of my house this morning. They was water everywhere and before I could access my shop, my electrical appliances were destroyed" a resident of Carrefour Mutzig told the Observer
Public Authorities in Douala, Cameroon's economic capital are yet to make a statement on the recent floods
Heavy rainfall caused mainly by climate change and poor drainage system of the City are believed to be at core of the floods
