Separatist fighters in Awing, Pinyin, Santa and Bamendakwe have been on the rampage since the start of July. Three attacks on the military with a Brasseries truck burnt on the Bamenda-Babadjou road on the 4th July 2020
A police van on patrol came under attack in Santa with one officer killed and five others wounded. The provocation reached heights when the Gendarmerie brigade in Bamendakwe came under attack on the 11th July 2020
These attacks prompted the commander of the 5th Joint Military Region, Brigadier General Nka Valere to send a 450 man squad to restore order in these communities
Under the command of Colonel Matiang Charles Alain, commander of the 51st Motorised infantry Brigade, Amba camps were destroyed in several localities
15 Amba boys were killed amongst which were General Okoro, Amba commander in Pinyin while Bush General was arrested and is in custody
In a presentation this Sunday July 19 in Santa, Motorbikes, containers of illicit fuel, Generators, electric cables, Gas cylinders, fetish charms, gun powder, military fatigues, a chain saw, bags of Marijuana, a refrigerator, an executive chair, an AK automatic rifle, mobile phones used to detonate improvised Explosive devices and grass harvesters were retrieved while several others were destroyed
In these communities, the separatist fighters had initiated tickets, sold out as market tolls. These tickets were seized
22 cows some belonging to Senator Achidi Achu which were seized by Amba boys and ferried to Ashong in Batibo were retaken and anchor at the Divisional officers office in Santa
Brigadier General Nka Valere while congratulating the soldiers cautioned them to protect the civilian population against any act of terrorism. He further called on the defense and security forces not to relent in their quest to see normalcy return to the region
He also called on the Divisional officer to tell the population to work towards an end to Amba activities in the subdivision
Alateneng, Baba II, Mantum, Pinyin, Bamendakwe and Bawock are communities visited during the operation
Some 30 vehicles were used during the operation
