To fight against the coronavirus pandemic and to ensure constant food supply during this period, MIDENO (North West Development Authority), distributed sanitary kits and farm seedlings to farming groups in the North West Region.
The distribution was done Friday June 6, 2020, at the head office in the presence of the Director General, Cletus Anye Matoya, under the banner “MIDENO: 39 years of Uninterrupted Rural Development, Distribution of Farm Inputs and COVID-19 kits to farmers.”
In order to support both farmers and water catchment projects from seven regions of the North West (Boyo, Bui, Donga Mantung, Menchum, Mezam, Momo, Ngoketunjia), farm seeds such as cassava cuttings, plantain suckers, food trees and others were distributed to representatives of farming groups present.
Preventive kits such as sanitary buckets, soap, face masks and sanitizers were also handed to farmers to ensure their safety during this period of coronavirus.
Cletus Anye Matoya, Director General made mention of his intention which is to preempt any food insecurity.
“We are out to encourage our farmers especially in the context we are living in. We want to preempt food insecurity. Irrespective of the times, we will always need food. We are now giving them diverse food trees because we need all of these to be available.”
“Considering we are living in the context of COVID-19, we equally made available prevention materials to make sure our farmers are well protected.” The DG added
Madam Fien Gladys a beneficiary from Boyo, Belo Mixed Farming CIG, expressed satisfaction towards this gesture.
“I am very happy. These gifts will go a long way to boost the image of farmers. If you are a farmer count yourself lucky. Just to sit and have such materials it is not an easy thing. If you use them effectively then you are great. We are going to proof to the institution that we will use it very well.”
It has always been difficult for some farmers getting such materials but MIDENO is there to serve the purpose.
It has been a routine for this agricultural institution in distributing aid to farmers. During the launching of the farming season, items such as corn, beans, fertilizers, Agro-chemicals and a host of others were distributed to support the efforts of farmers.
