As the Reconstruction process kicksoff, Wum Mayor calls for WADA to be revived

Mayor of Wum

The Mayor of the Municipality of Wum, Dighambong Anthony has called for the revival of the Wum Area Development Authority, WADA as the drive to reconstruct the North West gathers gear.

Presenting his points to the National coordinator of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West, Tuesday June 23, Wum Mayor stated that WADA is the only hope of a Menchum man

"It is my wish that WADA is revived and place under the authority of the council."

"The 2019 law on Decentralisation states that councils can ask from the government to reform its structures.” Mayor Dighambong added

The Wum Area Development Authority was inaugurated in 1968 by late President Ahmadou Ahidjo. The structure was dismantled in 1989 after the creation of a larger authority, the North West Development Authority, MIDENO.

The road to Menchum Division is a shadow of itself. Passing through the Bafut forest to the Menchum fall has been a nightmare as the Anglophone crisis worsens. The Mayor is saddened that the construction process is taking too long.

"We are one of those Divisions that has the worst roads linking the Divisional headquarter to the Regional Headquarter.” He opines

Wum and the entire Menchum Division has suffered persistent power cuts since three years and counting

"We have been blinded by the Menchum hydroelectric power. You won't belief we are in a Municipality and we stay for 10 months and have electricity for 50 hours and water for 40 hours.” The Mayor laments

He however recommends the reconstruction commission to consider two dimensions, the structural and humanitarian. As a lot of people have been mislead to believing in a Nation that will never see the light of day.

On the structural part, the Mayor noted that roads and bridges linking one council area to another have been destroyed. Timber and sticks are the only things serving the population that stayed behind

To complete the difficult task of reconstructing Menchum, the Mayor asked the commission to take into consideration those who dropped out of school and have not been able to further their education till date

The commission is expected to hand over it's recommendations to Cameroon's Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute after making rounds in the North West and South West Regions
