Activities leading up to the 54th Edition of the National Youth Day 2020 have been launched in Bamenda with schools and youth movements from all three subdivisions and the University of Bamenda taking part at the 5th Joint Military Region Up Station Bamenda.

Viang Mekala, Secretary General at the governor’s office sitting in for the Governor praised the organizers, especially the head teachers and head of establishments for the massive turnout. He called on pupils, students and youths across the region to shun the lock down and ghost towns and turn up to celebrate their citizenship. He promised that security forces will be there to protect all persons before during and after the celebration. The 54th edition of the Youth day he added will be celebrated on the back drop of the government’s quest for a permanent return of peace in the country.
The SG also affirmed that the seven administrative heads and the 34 sub-prefects of the region are in place and will preside over the youth day activities in their areas of jurisdiction.

The 54th National Youth Day will be observed under the theme “youth, peace, decentralization and participation in local governance for a new Cameroon” It also saw the launch of the Youth Connekt, A UN inspired project in the Northwest to assist the youth benefit from a wide variety of projects and incentives
